About LearnCycle

LearnCycle is a New York Department of State (NYDOS)-approved real estate qualifying education school. We offer the state's required 77-hour salesperson pre-licensing course at no cost, with optional exam preparation for students who want extra readiness for the New York State salesperson exam.

We launched on May 7, 2026, headquartered in San Luis Obispo, California, serving New York students initially with plans to expand to additional states.

What LearnCycle does

We deliver the 77-hour qualifying education required by New York to sit for the salesperson licensing exam. Our course is registered under:

  • NYDOS Course Approval Code D01104
  • ARELLO Course #11674

This can be verified on the NYDOS approved course providers page. The Certificate of Completion we issue is the same regulatory document that paid NYDOS-approved schools issue.

The required course is free. Optional Exam Ready Agent ($99) adds topic-level summaries and knowledge checks, five full-length New York practice exams, no access expiration, and a retake fee reimbursement if you don't pass the state exam on first attempt.

Why we exist

The 77-hour curriculum is set by the New York Department of State. Every approved school teaches the same 19 required topics. We don't think the $500 course teaches more than our free one — it just charges more for the same regulated material.

For most aspiring agents, that pricing isn't an inconvenience. It's a barrier. The student who'd be a great agent but has to delay licensure for six months saving up. The career-changer who starts and stops because something else came up financially. The single parent who never starts at all because the upfront cost isn't a number they can spare.

Real estate is supposed to be one of the most accessible career paths in America. We built LearnCycle to keep it that way.

Who founded LearnCycle

LearnCycle was founded by Tyler Thompson, Founder & CEO. Tyler is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a licensing and compliance expert, and an instructor in finance and ethics. He has spent years navigating licensing requirements and license renewals across regulated industries — the same regulatory ground that real estate education sits on.

Tyler grew up around real estate. Both of his parents are real estate agents. He grew up around the business — at the kitchen table during dinner, on weekends when tours ran late, in the car between showings. He saw the work of being an agent up close: the relationships, the negotiations, the weekend hours, the unpredictable income, and the rewards for people who stuck with it.

He also saw who didn't make it in to the profession. The barrier often wasn't talent, work ethic, or the 77-hour time commitment. The barrier was cost. That observation became LearnCycle.

Our commitments

We've made three public commitments that won't change as LearnCycle grows.

The required course will remain free. This isn't a launch promotion. It's our model. We have no plan to start charging for the regulatory minimum once we have market share.

No affiliate links, no sponsored content, no paid recommendations. We're not going to undermine our mission and become what we set out to replace.

Transparency about what we are and aren't. We are NYDOS-approved. Our curriculum is the full state-required 77 hours. None of that is provisional. We are not yet a national brand, not yet a sprawling course catalog with continuing education and broker pre-licensing, and we don't have years of alumni data. We'll earn those things through the work.

Where we're headed

We launched in New York because that's the market where the 77-hour pre-licensing structure is most expensive relative to the regulated content, and because it's the market our team knows best. We plan to expand to additional states once we've validated student outcomes in New York.

We're starting narrow, by design. Once we've earned trust through pass rates and student outcomes, we expect to add continuing education and broker pre-licensing in New York, then bring the same free-course model to other states.
